Subject: eta Distance Learning - Important notes
Dear eta Distance Learning Students,
Important: Do we have your correct contact details (sms and email)?
Are you aware of the new Support contact details?
Please do not submit work in Pdf format (see below).
Are you aware of your Study Window Period (year from start date)?
1. It is vital that we have your contact details - Cell phone number and email address. We will be making regular contact with all students through this method and rely on you to ensure that we have the correct detail.
2. Recently new Support Contact detail was sent out. If you did not receive it, please contact the office so that we can send it to you (detail that we have on record for you must be incorrect).
3. Just a note received from the Distance Facilitator - please ensure that work that is submitted electronically (via email) to the Facilitator is NOT submitted in Pdf format. The facilitator is not able to mark or comment on the work if received in Pdf format. Only worksheets can be submitted in Pdf's.
4. The date reflected on your Registration Letter that you would have received in your file is your "start date". Please note that you have a year from this date in which to complete your studies.
We apologise for the frequency of emails and sms' being sent at the moment, but feel it is vital to stay in contact with you. So please bear with us. If you are complete or off the course, you will removed from the listing shortly. If you continue to receive emails and you wish to unsubscribe please email distancelearning@etasa.co.za and advise us.
Your patience is appreciated.
Best regards, Distance Learning Office (021 674 7512)

Subject: eta - General note on submission of work via the post
Dear eta Distance Learning Students,
A request please
If you are submitting your work via the post, please could we ask that you place your work in a small thin folder clearly marked with the following:
Name, Surname, Course, Student number, Contact number & Postal Address. Your work then will be received in this folder, handed to Jaco in this folder, received back from Jaco in this folder and posted back to you in this folder. (So please just utilize the same folder for all submission of work). At present Estelle is calling to confirm the postal address all the time. In future we will utilize the address on the folder.
If you are already submitting in a file format, then please just assist by adding the detail to the front of it. Thank you for your assistance in this regard.

Subject: eta - Online test instructions
Dear eta Student, eta Online Tests
Instructions to Download the eta Online Test software from our website
Proceed to the eta website: www.exerciseacademy.com
On the home page, on the right hand side, under Campuses, click on Distance. You will now enter the Distance Learning Region. Again on the right hand side, under Distance Learning, click on "Exam Software". Just below the picture with students looking at a computer screen, you will see the words "Click here to Download Exam Software". Click on these words. You then proceed save and install this program to your Desktop (or make a note of where you are saving it to). Complete the download. It may take a little time depending on the speed of your internet connection. It is also advisable to do this after normal working hours, to be cost effective. Once download is complete (close it). You will now need to go and find the exam program (indicated by a little blue icon with eta). Double click on the little icon etaLDLExam and follow the instructions. If you have downloaded and accessed successfully, you should then have a menu with FAQ's (frequently asked questions), Mock Exam etc. Have a look at these and attempt the Mock Exam. The Mock Exam shows exactly how the "Real Exam" works. It is merely a test of the system (with some funny questions), so do not expect a response. Please also note that some anti-virus programmes will inhibit the software downloading and you may need to disable to allow it through.
How to proceed to write the test
Email the Distance Learning Office to confirm the following: that all is in order with the download, notify the office of five simple security questions (please email to distancelearning@etasa.co.za) eg. My dog's name is? Ans: Scruffy. These questions will pop up in the test, so be assured that they are questions that you are comfortable with. Request a date to write the test. Please give the office at least a weeks notice. Distance Learning will forward an email to you with your password to access your test. You will generally receive the password the day before the date you have requested to write. You are then able to proceed and write the test in your own time.
CHECKLIST:
Have you downloaded the software and do you understand how it works. Have you notified the Distance office re a date for your test? Have you notified the office of your security questions? Remember: you have 72hrs in which to do your exam once you have received your password. NB! Once you start your exam the clock begins to count down… please ensure that you complete the exam before the time expires or it will shut down automatically and you will lose your exam. Also, please note that you cannot revisit your questions, once you have answered, it will be gone. You will receive an automatic email with your result. General feedback from the students is that you have sufficient time, so do not be concerned.
The main areas of difficulty we experience are Anti-virus programs that are on computers (these stop the programme or the paper coming through). If you are experiencing difficulty (it gets to 50% of fetching the exam and no further), you may need to disable your Anti-virus program to allow the exam program to download and then re-enable thereafter.
It is important to ensure that the Mock exam works before proceeding to the "Real Exam. If you are experiencing difficulty - please reach the office for assistance.
It is critically important that we have your correct email address and cell number.
Many thanks and good luck.
Regards

Subject: eta - Distance Learning - News - May 2008
Dear eta Distance Learning student,
It’s hard to believe we are in May already. Many of you are well on your way with your studies and some will only have just started, either way, we trust you are enjoying your studies and making good progress.
I wanted to make contact with you all just to prompt regarding some important details. Please can you confirm receipt of this email?
Please take the time to go through the detail below.
Important Points:
Contact details
Regular contact with tutor/facilitator
Study timeline
Submission of work
Back up your work (this is your responsibility)!
Face Book
Be professional
Complete your qualification before you apply for positions
Electives
Tests
Please ensure that we have your correct and up to date details at all times – email, cell & postal address (very important).
Are you having regular contact with a facilitator, whether it is via the telephone, cell, email or post? Please ensure that the contact is regular to alleviate frustration. Ask the questions when you need to and do not struggle. Remember the onus is on you the student to ensure your work is received (check that it has in fact been received by the office or tutor). If you are not receiving feedback, check why not! Make contact with us on a regular basis. Do not struggle on your own. However, remember we are Distance Learning Institute and will not make contact with you!
Ensure you are aware of and working towards your timeline (remember you have ONE year from YOUR start date to complete. You will be granted a three month extension and no more – no matter what the circumstances!
Please ensure that you submit your work in a neat and clearly labeled fashion. Make it as easily accessible as possible for the Facilitator. Always include all your detail (Name, Surname, Course, Student Number, Contact detail & Postal Address). Do not use Flip files! Always include your address for your work to be returned to. If you are emailing your work – be as clear with your detail.
Please always ensure that you back your work up. If you are posting work, may sure you have copies. If you are working on computer, back it up regularly. This is your responsibility and we cannot extend your course if you lose your work!!
Face Book. We encourage you to register on the eta Distance Learning Face Book area. It means you can have contact with other students and interact.
At all times act in a professional and respectful manner.
Please be careful about applying for positions before you have been found “competent” and complete with the qualification. It causes such undue frustration and stress when one is accepted for a position and needing to present one’s qualification. Please have your qualification in hand and then apply (or notify us in good time that you have a possible placement). We have a process of moderation that needs to be followed and we cannot rush this process.
Elective material will reach you once we receive it from the National Office. Usually goes out to students by end July/August.
Please make contact with the office when you are ready to do your tests. They are not online tests this year. You receive them and submit them back to the office within 24hrs. Please email distancelearning@etasa.co.za for information.
Well, quite a lengthy email, but trust it is of assistance.
If in doubt about anything, please be in contact with us at the office.
All the best with your studies & most importantly enjoy!!

Dear eta Students,
A quick note to make contact with everyone. We trust the studies are going well and that you are having regular contact with the facilitators. (We really encourage this as it ensures a smoother path with less frustration – the facilitators have invaluable information and expertise to pass on).
Please ensure that we have your up to date contact details at all times: cell, postal address and most importantly your email address.
A gentle reminder to ask that you ensure that your work comes in consistently. Please do not allow it to accumulate so that when you submit you are submitting loads of modules. This causes marking to back up and feedback to be delayed. We seem to have a drop off in work in June/July and then it picks up hugely towards the end of the year. As you complete your modules, send them in. Keep working. As you receive your work back, address any “grey” areas immediately and re-submit.
If you have any queries re the above, please reach us on distancelearning@etasa.co.za.
Otherwise, happy studying!
Best regards from the Distance Learning team.
