course description
The course provides theoretical and practical education plus guidelines for practical training for sport coaching of beginner to intermediate level performers. This ensures that students have sufficient theoretical and documented practical training to achieve the National Certificate in Coaching Science. The programme prepares students to work as sport coaches in their chosen specialisation in schools, clubs or with special projects in sport. Through the process of facilitated learning in outcomes based education, students should be able to achieve the assessment criteria of the national qualification. A qualifying student will be able to:
• Coach at least one chosen sport specialisation to performers at beginner to intermediate level.
• Provide advice on fitness conditioning programmes that support the sport performance of beginner to intermediate level performers.
• Display appropriate communication and coaching skills to assist performers with their planning and motivation towards their sport goals.
• Provide advice to performer to develop the mental skills required for the competition of their chosen sport.
• Create support structures within the community relative to the sport.
• Participate in the development of sport for individuals and for the community.
specialisation
Through the eta learning programme, students are given the opportunity to up-skill themselves in the basic practices and techniques of rugby, soccer, netball, cricket or hockey. We recommend that students also complete the sport federation’s level 1 coaching programme of the sport code/s they wish to specialize in. Sport federation courses are not included in the eta course fees and are for the students own account.

specialisations
All graduates qualify as personal trainers. Students can also add on additional skills and choose any of the specialisation modules on offer during their course with eta. These options include aerobic, step and tone classes to music, coaching sport (cricket, football, hockey, netball or rugby, beginner to intermediate level), indoor cycle classes to music (spinning), massage for sport and fitness, nutrition for performance, pilates basic mat, sport psychology, vinyasa yoga.
